# Assets · patterns

4 files under `assets/patterns/`, held in the artifact’s asset store: fetch one with the Artifact tool’s `read`, the id below as `path` (they are not files beside the page — a read by file path fails), then upload it to your own artifact as an asset (`publish`, `asset:true`; or `upload_asset`, where your tool lists that); an SVG may also be inlined. Copy assets, never approximate them.

## Usage notes

# Patterns

The two brand geometric patterns, Community and Insight, as vector SVG (2026-09-17). The 1920 by 1920 PNG rasters were retired from this group the same day (the original uploads remain in `Uploads`); export a PNG from the SVG at whatever size a tool needs.

Use the Patterns as full fields or rails behind short white type in PBS Sans Medium, Bold or Black, with a Navy or PBS Blue overlay at 50% or more (`brand`, `deep` or `scrim` in `PatternPanel`); never a white or light overlay. Work in whole rows (horizontal layouts) or columns (vertical), between 3 and 6 in an area; crop one axis only, centered. Never recolor, reshape, rotate, flip, stretch, or mix two Patterns or two scales in one layout, never set body text or imagery on a Pattern, and ask brand@pbs.org before putting a Pattern on swag. The SVGs pass the intake rules in `assets/logos/README.md` (every fill on its shape, no styles or classes), so they render the same inlined, in `<img>` and as CSS backgrounds.
