# Assets · templates

2 files under `assets/templates/`, held in the artifact’s asset store: fetch one with the Artifact tool’s `read`, the id below as `path` (they are not files beside the page — a read by file path fails), then upload it to your own artifact as an asset (`publish`, `asset:true`; or `upload_asset`, where your tool lists that); an SVG may also be inlined. Copy assets, never approximate them.

# Templates

**Corrected 2026-10-20 (presentation templates only).** The title slide's Circle Crop now follows the Style Guide and the `CircleCrop` component: a perfect circle 1.7 times the slide height, centered vertically, bleeding off the top, right and bottom, with a square photo so the fill is not distorted. The web address is gone from the title layout and sample title slide, and the closing slide says wnpt.org (the station's website; never "nashvillepbs.org"). The `.potx`, the Google Slides `.pptx` and the PDF render in Shane's `Nashville PBS SVG/Templates/` folder were updated in place; the generator scripts named below were not on hand, so re-apply these two changes if the templates are ever regenerated.

Office and Google templates built from the Presentations, Documents and Data Visualization registers, rebuilt 2026-09-18 to the approved report geometry (Print / Strategic Report Register) and the PBS Brand team's deck conventions (Presentations). Arial stands in for PBS Sans, so they render the same on any machine. The former tagline is retired; where a sign-off line is wanted the templates carry the vision statement, "At Nashville PBS, we believe the right story, told honestly, can change everything."

**Where the files are.** This artifact's store cannot hold Office files (.potx, .pptx, .dotx, .docx), so the templates were delivered to Shane Burkeen's `Nashville PBS SVG/Templates/` folder (2026-09-17, replaced 2026-09-18) for placement on the station's shared drive or template gallery. This group holds PDF renders of each template (`NashvillePBS-Presentation.pdf`, `NashvillePBS-Document.pdf`) so the layouts can be checked here.

| file | what | how to use |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `NashvillePBS-Presentation.potx` | PowerPoint template, 16:9 (13.333 by 7.5 in). Nine layouts: Title (Navy, with the Teal rule), Section (numeral and Curve: a giant PBS Blue numeral on the white half, the title white on the Navy Curve with one Teal word, the PBS Brand team's own section style), Section (Navy, solid), Content, Two Content, Chart, Title and Image, Closing (Navy, with the vision statement), Blank. Content layouts carry a running section label before the slide number, bottom right. Nine sample slides with the rules in the speaker notes and a brand-color reference slide. | Double-click to start a new deck from it, or File, Save As, PowerPoint Template into your Custom Office Templates folder so it appears under New. Delete the sample slides you do not need. |
| `NashvillePBS-Presentation-for-Google-Slides.pptx` | The same deck as an ordinary .pptx for Google Slides. | Upload to Drive, right-click, Open with Google Slides (Drive converts it). Then File, Make a copy each time, or ask your Workspace admin to add it to the organization's template gallery. |
| `NashvillePBS-Document.dotx` | Word template, US Letter, 0.75 in margins, in the approved strategic plan geometry: PBS Blue cover (Teal rule, tracked title, Yellow overline, logo and mission block, circle-cropped photo), a Table of Contents page, the letter with the pull-quote card and the rotated KEY POINTS panel, mission, vision and values, a Key Pillars page, a pillar divider (Teal numeral, Teal rule, white lead card, circle-cropped photo), strategies with Yellow labels, measures with a Navy-headed table and a figure, and a closing page with the vision statement. Styles: Title, Heading 1 (Navy), Heading 2 (PBS Blue), Heading 3, Section Bar, Strategy Label, Lead In, Pull Quote, On Blue, Caption, Small, Table Text, plus bullet and numbered lists. Page numbers centered in the footer where the half-circle tab sits in print. | Double-click to start a new document from it, or File, Save As, Word Template into Custom Office Templates. Apply styles from the Styles pane; do not format by hand. |
| `NashvillePBS-Document-for-Google-Docs.docx` | The same document as an ordinary .docx for Google Docs. | Upload to Drive, Open with Google Docs (Drive converts it; the styles arrive as the document's Normal text and Heading 1 to 3, the custom ones as formatted paragraphs; the rotated KEY POINTS label may come in horizontal). File, Make a copy for each new document. |

## What the templates encode

- **Theme colors** (PowerPoint and Google Slides): Accent 1 to 6 are PBS Blue, Coral, Green, Light Blue, Red, Yellow, which is the validated chart series order, so a native chart picks brand colors in the right sequence; Dark 2 is Navy, Light 2 is Fog, hyperlinks PBS Blue. Teal and Medium Blue are not theme slots; the reference slide lists every hex.
- **Type**: slide sizes 48/40/28/20/16/12 pt (the slide tokens at 1920 by 1080 halved); document sizes 28/20/15/12/12/10 pt (the document tokens). Nothing on a slide below 12 pt; body copy in documents never below 12 pt.
- **Backgrounds**: white content slides, Navy for the title, solid section and closing slides (the numeral section layout is half white, half Navy). The document uses PBS Blue for its cover, dividers, bands and closing page, as the approved plan does. Accents: Yellow for the emphasis block, section bars and strategy labels; Teal for rules, numeral badges and the one emphasized word.
- **Photos**: the Word cover and divider carry the skyline and pedestrian-bridge photographs pre-cropped to the approved circle geometry as PNGs with transparency (Word cannot crop to a circle); replace them with your own by masking the new photo the same way, or drop in a rectangular photo.
- **Logos**: PNG renders of the official SVG exports (PowerPoint and Google Slides handle PNG everywhere; SVG support is uneven in Google). Replace with the SVGs from `assets/logos/` in tools that take them.

## Keep in step with the system

The templates are generated from the tokens by the maintainer's `harness/templates_office/` scripts (`build_pptx.js`, `finish_pptx.py`, `build_docx.js`, `finish_docx.py`). Change a token or a rule in the brand book, regenerate, and re-upload; do not hand-edit the template files and the system separately.
