# Logos

The four official Nashville PBS lockups as SVG, exported from the station's masters on 2026-09-17 with every fill written on its path: `NashvillePBS_Logo_Horizontal_Color.svg`, `NashvillePBS_Logo_Horizontal_White.svg`, `NashvillePBS_Logo_Vertical_Color.svg`, `NashvillePBS_Logo_Vertical_White.svg`. Horizontal is the primary lockup; Vertical is for narrow or square spaces. Color goes on white and light surfaces; White goes on Navy, Medium Blue, PBS Blue, the gradients, the Patterns and photography under the Navy overlay. The `Logo` component renders them; never recolor, distort, rotate, or split the wordmark from the shield. Full rules, clear space, print minimums and the legal line are in the brand book under Logo.

Geometry: the horizontal file is 603.48 by 100 units with the shield the full height, so `height` on the `Logo` component is the shield height; the vertical files are 279.97 by about 176.3.

This is the only logo group. The migration's duplicate `Logos` and `guidelines` groups, the two PNG white lockups and the repaired SVGs were retired on 2026-09-17; the original uploads (with their stripped fills) remain in `Uploads` as a record.

## Event lockup

Four station compositions added 2026-09-18 for Nashville PBS events: the horizontal logo, a PBS Sans Black slash and EVENT on the logo's baseline with caps at the PBS wordmark's height. `NashvillePBS_Event_Horizontal_White.svg` and `_Color.svg` are 979.95 by 100 units on transparent and follow the plain logo's colorway rule. `NashvillePBS_Event_Bar_Teal.svg` and `_Bar_Yellow.svg` are 1071.86 by 160: the white logo on a Navy block, EVENT in Navy on the accent, the slash's angle as the boundary. Type is outlined; the files pass the export rule below. Rules and limits are in the brand book under Intentional Additions. The files are generated by `harness/gen_event_lockup.py`; edit the script, not the SVGs, if the spacing ever changes.

## Why SVGs used to break, and the export rule

The first uploads were Illustrator exports with **Internal CSS** styling: every path carried `class="cls-1"` and the fills lived in a `<style>` block. That block was lost on the way in (the `<defs>` arrived empty), so every path fell back to black and the white face of the P-head disappeared into the shield.

Export marks so that nothing depends on a stylesheet:

- Illustrator: File > Save As > SVG, or Export As > SVG. **Styling: Presentation Attributes** (not Internal CSS, not Style Elements). Font: Convert to Outlines. Images: Embed. Object IDs: Minimal. Decimal: 2. Minify on. Responsive on or off; the `viewBox` must be present.
- Figma: right-click > Copy as SVG, or export with "Outline text" and "Include id attribute" off. Figma writes presentation attributes by default.
- Keep the P-head's face as a filled shape, not a clipping mask, mask, or compound cut-out: masks are stripped by some pipelines and a cut-out shows whatever is behind it.
- No `<style>`, no `class=`, no `currentColor`, no `<text>`, no external `href` or `url()`, no filters. One artwork per file, artboard fit to the mark.

`harness/svg_check.py` in the maintainer's toolkit checks a file against these rules and can inline a surviving `<style>` block; a file that passes renders the same in every browser, in `<img>`, as a CSS background, and inlined. All four files here pass.

## Still wanted

- One-color black and reverse black and white lockups for one-color print, if the station uses them.
- Master vector files (AI, EPS) cannot be published here; send SVG exports.

## National PBS logo

`PBS_Logo_Color_RGB.svg` (PBS Blue shield and logotype, white profiles) and `PBS_Logo_White_RGB.svg` (white shield and logotype, PBS Blue profiles): the PBS logo on its own, for the PBS app promotion only (`AppPromo`; brand book, Sub-brands and Channels: the PBS App Marketing Guide makes the PBS logo the app's graphic). Exported in the standalone project in October 2026 from the PBS-supplied files (`PBS_rgb.svg`, `PBS_wblue_rgb.svg`), with every fill written on its path, so they pass the export rule above; the same artwork is embedded in the bundle as `ChannelAssets.uri.pbs`. Everywhere else the station uses its own co-branded lockup; the PBS logo never stands alone in station materials (brand book, Logo). Added 2026-11-06.
