# Nashville PBS DS — project instructions

The rules that matter to consumers live in **`SKILL.md`** (what every consuming project and the org Skill read) and `readme.md`. This file is only read inside this design-system project. When you change a rule, change `SKILL.md` first and mirror it here.

## Working in this project
- Brand artwork is code: logos, Symbol Crop, and both patterns are embedded in `components/brand/brandAssetData.jsx` and exposed as `Logo`, `PatternPanel`, `SymbolCrop`, and `BrandAssets` on the namespace; channel lockups (WORLD, Create, ALL ARTS, PBS KIDS) live in `channelAssetData.jsx` as `ChannelLogo` / `ChannelAssets`. Consuming projects receive only `styles.css` + `tokens/`, `fonts/`, `_ds_bundle.js`, and the skill docs — never `assets/`. So: no `assets/...` paths in templates or components; use the components or `BrandAssets` URLs (see `templates/on-air/OnAir.dc.html` `_syncAssets` for the logic-class pattern with a file fallback).
- `assets/patterns/*_Pattern.svg` are pixel-faithful vector rebuilds of the official PNGs (12×12 grid of 160 px cells); regenerate `brandAssetData.jsx` from them if the artwork ever changes.
- Templates load the DS through their sibling `ds-base.js` (`styles.css` + `_ds_bundle.js`). Keep `<script>` tags in `<helmet>` only.
- After edits run `check_design_system`; keep it at zero issues.

## Broadcast standards (mirror of SKILL.md — see uploads/Safe_Areas.jpg; the PBS Style Guide v3 / On-Air Toolkit v3.1 text is in uploads/_guide_part*.txt, PDFs archived offline)
- 16:9; author at 1920×1080, export 2× for the UHD master. Title-safe = inner 80% (10%/edge) for ALL readable elements; action-safe = inner 90%. Backgrounds and bars may bleed.
- Backgrounds switchable: top-right Primary Gradient (225°), brand Pattern, or Navy. Station slates/support/notice cards use the Insight pattern, no overlay.
- No Curve on broadcast. Lower third: full-width PBS Blue bar, 20% tall, 6.5% above the bottom, messaging left (lower lines in accent), white co-brand logo right, both title-safe.
- One accent per graphic; minimum type ≈ 40 px at 1080.

## Exports (regenerate on request; not kept in the project)
- `skill-package/nashville-pbs-design/` = SKILL.md + readme + tokens + fonts + logo/channel/pattern SVGs + reference digests + INSTALL.md + CLAUDE.md.snippet. Built from this project and zipped for org provisioning.
- `brand-site/` = static brand toolkit site (public + partners tiers) generated from the same sources. Both were last exported 2026-10-23 (v4) and deleted here to keep the design system small for the move.
