# Templates

Editable brand templates for staff, built 2026-11-06 from the Presentations and Documents registers: a PowerPoint template and a Word document, with Google Slides and Google Docs versions converted from them. This group holds their PDF renders, exported by Microsoft PowerPoint and Word, so the layouts can be checked here. The artifact's store cannot hold Office files (.pptx, .docx), so the editable files live in two places:

- **Google Drive, folder "Nashville PBS Brand Templates"** (owner Shane Burkeen, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YaDxBPpciizMSO08voQiY7nzbjUFamJy): the Google Slides version (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1yr4oHEatLjXKvbAiXyw7dgTByZgUwrs--e5313uTn6I/edit), the Google Docs version (https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Bk9ESqNzQIk6H8MaIhkN93tdCUZs4-gs8sv6ILlM-A/edit), and the PowerPoint and Word originals. To start a new file from either, open the link with `/copy` in place of `/edit`.
- **GitHub, NashvillePBS/design-system (private), `templates/office/`**: `NashvillePBS-Presentation.pptx`, `NashvillePBS-Document.docx`, the generator scripts in `build/`, the renders and a README listing every layout and style.

These supersede the 2026-09-18 set that earlier versions of this note described (the .potx and .dotx delivered to the `Nashville PBS SVG/Templates/` folder).

## What the templates encode

- **Arial throughout** stands in for PBS Sans, which is not installed on most staff computers and does not embed reliably in Office. Do not substitute another typeface.
- **Decks**: two backgrounds (white content slides, Navy for the title, section starters and the closing slide), one accent (Yellow), the type scale from the `slide-*` tokens halved to points, and the furniture the Presentations register asks for. Charts: one series in PBS Blue with the one bar the slide is about in Yellow, values on the marks, no legend.
- **Documents**: the `doc-*` scale in points, one accent per document (Yellow here; Teal or Coral may take its place across a whole document, never mixed within one), covers and dividers as a solid Navy field inside the margins with the white logo and no header or footer.
- **Facts**: the website is wnpt.org, never nashvillepbs.org; the title slide carries no web address, the closing slide does; the public name is Nashville PBS.
- **Google conversions** change three things: the two picture placeholders come through as text boxes (insert a photo with Insert, Image, then Mask image for a circle), the Word table style becomes direct formatting, and the header title is plain text rather than a field.

## Keep in step with the system

The templates are generated by `templates/office/build/` in the GitHub repo (`build-pptx.js` and `postprocess_pptx.py` with pptxgenjs, `build-docx.js` and `postprocess_docx.py` with docx, `figure.py`, `render.sh` for the PowerPoint and Word exports). Change a token or a rule in the brand book, rebuild, re-render, replace the two PDFs here and remake the Google versions with File, Save as Google Slides / Docs; do not hand-edit the template files and the system separately.
