# Nashville PBS Office and Google Templates

Editable brand templates for staff: a PowerPoint deck and a Word document, plus Google Slides and Google Docs versions converted from them. They follow the Nashville PBS Design System's slide and document registers (`artifact/project/README.md`, "Presentations" and "Documents"; type scales `slide-*` and `doc-*` in `artifact/project/tokens.json`). The PDF renders in `artifact/assets-store/templates/` show the same registers.

| File | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| `NashvillePBS-Presentation.pptx` | PowerPoint template: a real theme and slide master with 13 layouts and a 12-slide sample deck |
| `NashvillePBS-Document.docx` | Word template: US Letter, named styles, a table style and a five-page sample |
| `renders/` | What the templates look like (see "Renders" below) |
| `build/` | The scripts that generate both files (see "Rebuilding") |

## Google versions

Folder in Google Drive, owned by sburkeen@wnpt.org: **Nashville PBS Brand Templates**, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YaDxBPpciizMSO08voQiY7nzbjUFamJy

| Template | Open | Make a copy |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Google Slides: Nashville PBS Presentation | https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1yr4oHEatLjXKvbAiXyw7dgTByZgUwrs--e5313uTn6I/edit | https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1yr4oHEatLjXKvbAiXyw7dgTByZgUwrs--e5313uTn6I/copy |
| Google Docs: Nashville PBS Document | https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Bk9ESqNzQIk6H8MaIhkN93tdCUZs4-gs8sv6ILlM-A/edit | https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Bk9ESqNzQIk6H8MaIhkN93tdCUZs4-gs8sv6ILlM-A/copy |

The folder also holds the PowerPoint and Word originals (`NashvillePBS-Presentation.pptx`, `NashvillePBS-Document.docx`) for people who want to download them. The Google versions were made in Google Slides and Google Docs with File, Save as Google Slides / Save as Google Docs, so they carry the same layouts and styles. Three things Google changes: the deck's two picture placeholders (the circle on the title layout and the rounded frame on Title and Picture) come through as plain text boxes, so in Slides add a photo with Insert, Image and Format options, Mask image (circle) instead; the Word table style becomes direct formatting (the sample table still looks right, but there is no reusable "Nashville PBS Table" style in Docs); and the document title in the header is plain text rather than a field. Sharing is whatever the folder's owner sets; the "make a copy" links work for anyone who can open the files.

## Arial

Both templates use **Arial throughout**. PBS Sans is the brand typeface, but it is not installed on most staff computers and font embedding in Office is unreliable, so Arial, the sanctioned stand-in, is set as the theme font and in every style. Do not substitute another typeface. If PBS Sans is installed on a machine, PowerPoint's Home, Replace, Replace Fonts (Arial to PBS Sans) switches a deck in one step; in Word, change the font on the Normal style and the headings.

## The presentation

16:9 at 1920 by 1080 (13.333 by 7.5 in). Theme colors: Dark 1 black, Light 1 white, Dark 2 Navy `#0A145A`, Light 2 Fog `#EEF0F5`, Accent 1 to 6 PBS Blue `#2638C4`, Coral `#FE704E`, Green `#087B45`, Light Blue `#486CD8`, Red `#D6383A`, Yellow `#FFCF00` (the chart series order). Two backgrounds per deck: white for content, Navy for the title, section starters and the closing slide. One accent, Yellow: the short bar, the marker block (bold Navy text on Yellow), the one highlighted chart bar, the quote banner. No transitions. Text sizes: title 48 pt (96 px), section 40 pt (80 px), slide title 28 pt (56 px) in PBS Blue, subhead 20 pt (40 px), body 16 pt (32 px) black, caption 12 pt (24 px), the floor. Station logo 72 px top-left on the title slide, 48 px bottom-left on the others; slide number 24 px bottom-right with an optional running section label before it.

Layouts (New Slide gallery):

| Layout | Use |
| --- | --- |
| Title | Navy. Logo, Yellow bar, title, subtitle, date; a Circle Crop picture placeholder on the right (click its icon to add a photo). No web address |
| Section Starter | Navy. Section label, Yellow bar, section title, one sentence |
| Section Starter, Numeral | White with a Navy circle: the giant PBS Blue numeral and the title white on the circle, one word in Yellow (the form PBS's brand team uses). One section style per deck |
| Agenda | Numbered list at 20 pt |
| Title and Content | Title and up to five bulleted lines |
| Two Columns | Two headings and two bulleted columns |
| Chart | Chart placeholder, the takeaway as a 20 pt PBS Blue subhead at right, a source line |
| Stat | One headline figure in a Navy circle, with its label and the takeaway |
| Quote | Italic quote and name on a full-width Yellow banner |
| Title and Picture | Body copy at left, a rounded picture placeholder at right |
| Title Only | Title and furniture; build anything else on it |
| Closing | Navy. Vertical white logo, the vision statement and wnpt.org (fixed) |
| Blank | Nothing on it |

The sample deck shows each layout once, ending with a reference slide of the palette. Charts: one series in PBS Blue with the bar the slide is about in Yellow, values on the marks, no legend, axis text 12 pt.

## The document

US Letter, 0.75 in margins. Running header with the small color logo (0.25 in) and the document title; footer with "Nashville PBS" at left and the page number at right, 10 pt, over a hairline rule. Covers and dividers are a solid Navy field inside the margins (a one-cell table) with white type and the white logo, and carry no header or footer.

Styles (Home, Styles pane):

| Style | Setting |
| --- | --- |
| Title | 28 pt bold PBS Blue |
| Heading 1 | 20 pt bold PBS Blue |
| Heading 2 | 15 pt bold Navy, sentence case |
| Heading 3 | 12 pt bold Navy |
| Normal | 12 pt black on 1.5 line spacing, left-aligned |
| Caption | 10 pt italic Slate; numbered table and figure captions with the source |
| Small, Table Text | 10 pt for sources, footers and table cells |
| Section Bar | full-width Yellow bar, Navy bold 20 pt; a major section heading |
| Strategy Label | bold Navy caps on a small Yellow block ("1.1 Staffing") |
| Marker (character style) | bold Navy on Yellow for one emphasized phrase |
| Callout | Cloud box with a PBS Blue left rule, body size |
| Pull Quote, Pull Quote Name | italic 14 pt Navy on a Yellow banner, name in bold 10 pt |
| Cover Label, Cover Title, Cover Subtitle, Cover Text | white type for the Navy cover and divider pages |
| List Bullet, List Number | round PBS Blue bullets; plain numerals |
| Nashville PBS Table (Table Design tab) | Navy header row with white bold text, Fog zebra rows, hairline rules, no vertical rules |

The sample is five pages: cover, a body page with every text style, a data page with the table and a figure, a divider and a page on using the template. The one accent is Yellow; Teal or Coral may take its place across a whole document, never mixed within one.

## Renders

`renders/presentation-NN.png` (and `presentation.pdf`) are the twelve sample slides exported by Microsoft PowerPoint, and `renders/document-N.png` (and `document.pdf`) are the five pages exported by Microsoft Word, both on 2026-11-06 with `build/render.sh`. `renders/google-slides-NN.png` and `renders/google-docs-*.png` show the same deck and document as Google Slides and Google Docs lay them out after conversion. Both files also pass the OOXML validators in Claude's pptx and docx skills. The first time `render.sh` touches a file or the output folder, Office's sandbox asks for "Grant File Access", which someone at the Mac clicks once.

## Rebuilding

Everything is generated; edit the scripts, not the files by hand.

```
cd design-system/templates/office/build
npm install
PY=/path/to/python3-with-Pillow bash build.sh      # writes both templates into the parent folder
bash render.sh ../NashvillePBS-Presentation.pptx ../renders presentation   # PowerPoint, needs a person at the Mac
bash render.sh ../NashvillePBS-Document.docx ../renders document            # Word
```

`build-pptx.js` (pptxgenjs) writes the deck; `postprocess_pptx.py` then writes the theme colors, turns the circle shapes and picture placeholders into ellipses, sets the master text styles, flattens chart category labels so Google Slides reads them, and removes duplicate logo files. `build-docx.js` (docx) writes the document; `postprocess_docx.py` adds the table style. `figure.py` draws the sample figure (Pillow). Logo PNGs in `build/logos/` were exported from the SVGs in `artifact/assets-store/logos/` with `build/tools/svg2png.swift` at two to four times their placed size. Validate with the pptx and docx skills' `validate.py` after a rebuild. After any change here, the files should also be uploaded to the design system artifact's `templates` asset group and the Google versions remade (File, Save as Google Slides / Docs) so the links above stay current, or the new Google files get new links.

The website is wnpt.org, never nashvillepbs.org. The public name is Nashville PBS.
